Broadcaster and Author Katie Piper to tackle the power of the podcast at MAD//Fest
By Dan Brain, Content & Marketing Director, MAD//Fest London26 October, 2018
People who are passionate about podcasts, Strictly fans and brands who want to crack the audio have something special to look forward to at MAD//Fest London on 29 Nov - we’ve snapped up Broadcaster and Author Katie Piper to speak about how the medium is transforming storytelling.
In 2009, Katie’s modelling career was blossoming. Her life was turned upside down when a man ordered an accomplice to attack her with industrial strength sulphuric acid.
After 60 operations, Katie continued to show her fighting spirit, developing a successful media career. She has written 6 books and established The Katie Piper Foundation to support other survivors of acid attacks. Katie’s Extraordinary People, a collaboration with Somethin’ Else, is currently no. 1 in the Podcast Chart.
The podcast market is booming and is set to treble in size by 2020 to $600m. Tech players like Amazon and Spotify are ramping up their podcast output. Media owners like the BBC and ITV have found a way to engage young people who don’t listen to radio. Podcast presenters are becoming global stars.
Advertisers and adtech firms are switching on to the medium - hello programmatic podcasts, that didn’t take long!
So how can brands thrive in a space where storytelling is everything?
Should you be making podcasts a priority?
These are just some of the questions Katie and Somethin’ Else’s Steve Ackerman will be exploring at the show. Welcome to the MAD//Fest, Katie and Steve!
Steve and Katie will be speaking at the Headline Stage at 9am on 29 Nov.
