Ben & Jerry’s Head of Activism and Social Mission Rebecca Baron is among the latest speakers to be announced for MAD//Anywhere on 10-11 March.

Ben & Jerry’s has leveraged its brand to make a difference on social issues and was praised for its radical response to the Black Lives Matter movement when it called for the ‘dismantling of white supremacy’.

Whilst historically the majority of global brands have stayed out of contentious social and political issues, Baron says: ‘We (Ben & Jerry’s) vocally support movements where our voice would have impact, rather than just try to make ourselves look good.”

The announcement comes after Ben & Jerry’s owner Unilever unveiled a commitment to challenging advertising stereotypes as part of a bold plan to drive meaningful change throughout its business operations and wider society.

Baron joins a stellar speaker line-up at MAD//Anywhere that also includes Eve Sleep CMO-turned CEO Cheryl Calverley, Confused.com CMO Samuel Day, Revolut CMO Chad West, Yorkshire Tea Marketing Director Dom Dwight and Malaysia Airlines’ Head of Marketing – UK and Europe Richard De Villa.

“It’s refreshing to see the trend towards brands using their influence to make a difference on the issues of the day and not just passively sitting on the sidelines. It’s ethically the right thing to do and positive for the brand when it’s authentic and well-placed. Rebecca joins a fantastic line-up of speakers who will share their creative ideas, plans and innovations to take their businesses forward during this incredibly challenging time,” says Luke Wilcox, MAD//Fest London’s Head of Content.
