In 2022's first episode of MAD//Fest's partner podcast, Shiny New Object, Octopus Energy's Global Director of Product and Marketing seeks to strip marketing back and make advertising more straightforward.

Rebecca Dibb-Simkin, the Global Director of Product & Marketing at the Octopus Energy Group, never intended to have a career in marketing, planning to go into accounting instead. “Seduced” by an Ogilvy graduate scheme ad, she ended up working at British Gas and now at Octopus Energy, where she’s going beyond “traditional” marketing by looking after the full product development and launch process.

Her Shiny New Object reflects her reluctance to fall into established marketing patterns: “all marketing jargon should go in room 101.” Rebecca seeks to strip marketing back to the bare necessity, create products that people want to buy because they’re brilliant, and make advertising more straightforward.
